Kean University Recreation and Fitness Center Alumni Membership Information and Fees
Kean University's Recreation Department offers a variety of classes throughout the week along with standard facilities which include a pool, arena, indoor track, and Fitness Center. The Fitness Center is equipped with top of the line Life Fitness and Hammer Strength equipment, three plasma televisions, and a stereo system with surround sound. In addition, all equipment in the Cardio Loft - ellipticals, treadmills, and stationary bicycles - is enhanced with individual cable-ready television screens on each apparatus.
Alumni Recreation and Fitness Center Membership Eligibility
All Kean University alumni (individuals who have graduated with at least one degree from Kean University, Kean College, Newark State College, New Jersey State Teachers College at Newark, or Newark Normal School) who pay the annual membership fee and are in good standing with such payment may become a member of the Center. The annual membership fee for alumni is $300for a full year from the date of enrollment and is paid in full upon registration by check, money order, or credit card payment to Kean University. Confirmation of alumni status and application for alumni Fitness Center membership are facilitated at the Office of Alumni Relations, Room 122, Townsend Building. A Kean University photo ID is required for admission to the Fitness Center. Photo IDs are acquired at the Administration Building on the third floor. The Cougar ID office is open on

There will be a $10 fee to replace lost or damaged photo ID cards.
A Kean University parking decal will be issued upon payment for membership and will need to be displayed on the back of the member's vehicle. Fitness Center Policies and Procedures
- 1. Member must show ID for admittance.
- 2. Proper work out attire is required (No jeans or boots).
- 3. Personal items must be kept in the locker rooms. (No bags, backpacks, jackets, etc. are allowed in the Fitness Center). Members must provide their own locks.
- 4. Food and gum are prohibited in the Fitness Center. Plastic water bottles are allowed.
- 5. No profanity or rude behavior is allowed.
- 6. All weights must be placed on racks when not in use.
- 7. Machines and benches must be wiped down with cleaning solution (provided by the University) after use.
- 8. All trash must be discarded in proper waste receptacles.
- 9. Violations of these rules will be grounds for dismissal from the facility and further disciplinary actions may be taken.
- 10. No smoking in the facilities.

NOTE: The fitness center and pool availability is based on athletic teams use and class schedules of the facility.
The Fitness Center and Pool are closed between academic semesters and summer sessions, during official state holidays, and whenever Kean University is closed due to inclement weather or other emergencies. The Athletic Department and the University reserve the right to close any facilities for special events or other conflicts without advance notice.
Agreement for Recreation and Fitness Center Use
Member agrees and represents that all exercises, treatment and use of all Kean University Fitness Center facilities shall be undertaken at the user's own risk, that he/she is in good physical condition and physically able to undertake any physical exercises. Kean University shall not be liable for any claims, demands, injuries, damages, actions or causes of action, whatsoever, to user or his or her property arising out of, or connected with the use of any of the services and/or facilities and of any affiliated companies and/or their respective agents and employees, or the premises where the same are located and the user does hereby expressly forever release and discharge any affiliated companies and their respective agents, and their employees, from all such claims, demands, injuries, damages, actions or cause of actions. In a case of any accident, user agrees and concedes that he/she will be examined at his/her sole expense by a licensed physician who shall report in writing to both user and Kean University.
Damage to facilities: User agrees to pay an extra charge for damage arising from any careless use of equipment, dropping of weights, or the like caused by user.
Personal Property: The Fitness Center and employees of the center shall not be responsible for damages, lost or stolen articles of clothing and other personal property of any user.
Compliance with Rules and Conditions: The Member has been given a copy of its current Policies and Procedures. User agrees to keep and obey all Policies and Procedures and any additional or changed Policies and Procedures in the future prescribed by the Fitness Center. The Fitness Center reserves the right to add to or amend the rules and conditions at any time, and the Fitness Center reserves the right to revoke or terminate this membership if user fails to keep and obey any of such Policies and Procedures.
