Rules

Rules for Intramural Basketball

1. Eligibility:

A. You must be a KEAN UNIVERSTIY STUDENT. You must have a valid class schedule and must be currently enrolled at the college during that semester of play.

B. NO ALUMNI!

C. NO GUESTS!

2. Timing:

A. Games will be played in 15 minute halves with the clock running at all times with the exception of the last two minutes and foul shots. Regular timing rules will apply in an overtime period (i.e. the clock will stop on all fouls and violations).

B. Each team will be allowed two (2) time-outs per game one (1) per half, one (1) minute in length.

C. If a team call a time-out when they have none remaining, the time-out is granted, but the opposing team shall have two technical foul shots and the ball when play resumes.

D. There will be a five (5) minute intermission between halves.

E. Overtime period will last (3) minutes with each team receiving one additional time-out per over-time period.

3. Participation:

A. Participants are not allowed to be on a roster on more than one team in the same league.

B. There will be NO guest players allowed to play.

C. If a team would like to add a player to their roster they can do so up through the 2nd week. This must be done through the intramural supervisor prior to the start on any game.

D. Any team caught using a non-registered/guest player will forfeit their game.

4. Shots/Foul Shots/Technical Fouls:

A. All points will be counted as two (2) until the playing field has a three-point line to determine a three (3) pointer.

B. Players may enter the foul lane once the foul shooter has released the ball. The shooter must wait until the ball hits the rim.

C. No one may move from their position during the foul shot once the shooter has been giving the ball.

D. The ball must hit the rim to be a live ball.

E. A Technical foul shot is worth two (2) free throws. If there is a foul on the play and then a Technical foul follows, the Technical shot will come first then the foul shots to follow.

5. Forfeits:

A. If a team is not ready to play with at least five (5) players by 10 minutes after the scheduled time, the team will receive a forfeit.

B. Five forfeits will exclude the team from further play in the league. Note: The term "ready to play" means 5 people on the court properly dressed.

6. Ejections & Suspensions:

A. If a player is ejected from a game, he/she is automatically suspended from his/her next game, regardless of the fact that it is regular season or playoffs.

B. If a player is ejected from two contests over the course of a season, he/she will be automatically suspended from all further intramural basketball competition for the remainder of the season.

C. Any player who is ejected from a game must leave the gym as soon as possible. Any refusal to leave the building will result in further disciplinary action against the player and his team, including potential forfeiture of the game or season.

7. Team Captains:

A. Only the team captain shall address the official(s).

B. Team captains are responsible for seeking that all players are eligible according to the Intramural eligibility rules. Captains are also responsible for notifying the intramural supervisor of any team changes and scheduling problems.

8. Team Deposit:

A. The team deposit must be handed in at the captains meeting held prior to the start of the season.

B. The team deposit is a $50.00 cash deposit given to the intramural supervisor that will be refunded at the end of the season if the team does not have any non-excused absences from games.

C. If a team fails to show up on game-day without notifying Jay Sgaramella at least 24 hours in advance, the team will suffer a forfeit as well as a $10.00 deduction from the refund.

a. (i.e. If a team violates this rule and misses two games during the season, the captain will only receive a $30.00 refund)

Womens selfdefense class on Tuesday and Thursday pm (will start the week of Sept 14th)

Tuesday and Thursdays 6-pm

 All classes are FREE to faculty/staff NO guests allowed classes are held in either D'Angola small gym or D'Angola human performance lab
